"Shari-den" Reliquary Hall in Engaku-ji Temple in Kita-Kamakura, the only building in the entire prefectural area as designated national treasure which is normally not open to the public, can be now viewed on YouTue.
"Shari-den" Reliquary Hall is believed to have been built in the 1500's and representative of authentic Zen Buddhism-style architectures, and it allegedly enshrines the relics of Buddha.
Normally it is not open to the public except special opening days a few times a year, but now it can be viewed on YouTube because Engaku-ji Temple has been closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and they decided to make "Shari-den" be open to the public online.
Our production team had obtained special permission for a photo-shoot on the temple ground including "Shari-den" when we were making our guidebook, so we had a chance to view it closely but not as close as this amazing video that we can view aerial drone image and details of the architectures.
We appreciate people who have been maintaining this valuable building there so long, and thanks for the technology too!
