三浦半島の古い漁具 Fishing Tools of the Miura Peninsula

横須賀市自然人文博物館でGWと11月の今の時期にそれぞれ数日間限定で行われる「文化財収蔵庫公開」。

三浦半島の漁具が多数収蔵されている館内では、博物館で展示しきれない大型木造船や漁具など2603点が特別に見られる上、今日は学芸員さんの解説ツアーもあるということで参加してきました。

一言で言うと「ぜんぶ茶色」。

木、竹、綿、素焼きの陶器などでできていて、もちろん自然に還るものばかり。

ほんの60~70年前まで、この辺りでも生活用品のほとんどを木や竹で手作りしているライフスタイルだったんですよね、、、

FRPやプラスチックの登場で、こういったものはほぼ絶滅。

代わりに私たちは100円ショップ、ドラッグストア、イオンなどで海外産のプラ製品を「安くて便利」と気軽に買って気軽に捨てて、ガソリン使って焼却するか、埋め立てる必要ない海まで埋め立ててゴミを埋めるための埋立地を造ったり、途上国へ貨物で運んで「処分した」ことにしたりしているわけで、、、💧

漁師さんたちが手作りしていた漁具や木造の船なども今や博物館でしか見られないものとなり、コンクリの港からエンジン付きのFRPの船にヒョイと飛び乗って、ずっと遠くまで漁に出られるようになり、漁に出られない日は陸で畑を耕していた漁師さんたちもテクノロジーのおかげで漁に出られる日が多くなり、畑をやる人もいなくなり、畑はディベロッパーの手に渡って分譲開発されて住宅地になったりセレブの別荘になったり。

そのおかげで子育て世代の移住者が増えて多様性や活気と税収がアップしたので、時代の変化は良いとも悪いとも言えないですが、、、

とにかく美しい木造和船。

「全国津々浦々にいた」という船大工産の技術。

伊勢神宮で20年ごとに遷宮を行なって技術継承を行なっているように、祭祀で使う船を作るなどして継承していかれたらよいのに。

この博物館には「自然館」「文化館」があり、常設展示も三浦半島の昆虫、植物、地層断層、海の生き物、ペリー上陸以降の横須賀の歴史、漁村の民俗文化など展示が充実しているのに無料。

「自然館」は約50年前、「人文館」は約40年前にオープンしたとのことで、高度成長期の豊かな財政があったゆえにつくられたのだと思いますが、老朽化している箇所のリノベーションや増え続ける収蔵品の収蔵スペースの拡大などが必要と思われ、

「こういった後世に残すべき価値あるものにぜひもっと税金を使っていただきたいな」

と。

“Fishing Tools of the Miura Peninsula," a Nationally Designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural PropertyAt Yokosuka City Museum (of Nature and Humanities), there’s a special "Cultural Heritage Storage Facility Open Day" held for a few days each during Golden Week and in November.

This is a rare opportunity to view 2,603 items, including large wooden boats and fishing tools from the Miura Peninsula, which are not on display at the museum.

To put it simply, the collection is “all brown.” The items are made of natural materials like wood, bamboo, cotton, and unglazed pottery, all of which are biodegradable. Just 50 to 60 years ago, people in this region relied on a lifestyle where most daily items were handmade from wood and bamboo.

However, the arrival of FRP and plastic wiped out these traditional tools and materials.

Those beautiful wooden Japanese boats and the craftsmanship of shipwrights who once “were found in every port around the country” are truly admirable, so it would be wonderful if boat-building skills could be preserved, even if just for ceremonial boats.

The museum’s permanent exhibits are impressive and free, covering topics like the insects and plants, geological layers and fault lines, marine life of the Miura Peninsula, Yokosuka’s history, and the folk culture of fishing villages. The English explanations are quite limited, but it’s recommended for those interested in the history and folk culture of this region.
